Tribute To Bud Burris

I have been remiss in posting any updates to our web page for months. One of the main reasons is that I regretfully announce that my business partner, Bud Burris, passed away unexpectedly on January 27, 2015.

Bud had received a diagnosis of cancer of the pancreas.   His doctors had given him much hope that a surgical intervention called the Whipple procedure could cure him. The surgery is quite complicated but Bud had great confidence in the medical staff at KU Hospital.

He underwent the surgery on Tuesday, January 20, 2015. Upon entering Bud, the surgeon found that the pancreas was much more compromised than expected. He removed the gall bladder and closed up the surgical entry wound. Bud recovered in the hospital for four days. He was released on Saturday. He was in great spirits and we made time to talk every afternoon to keep him up to date with what was going on in the office.

He sounded in great spirits and was upbeat until the evening of Tuesday, January 27th when he sounded very distressed. On the following day, Pam, his wife, called and said that Bud was in great distress and she had taken him back to KU Hospital where they had checked him into the ICU. I met her at the hospital where I was able to see him until about 8:30 pm. Pam called me about 10:45 that evening saying Bud had died.

Bud was a great friend and mentor, one of the best listeners I have ever met. He loved working with the families of Funeral Advocates and we were honored and privileged to have had our almost five years together. Please let me know your experience with Bud and I would be honored if you would share your memories of Bud with us.

May he rest in peace, as he was a peaceful man.

Our friend, Sara B called and she says she read on our web site that our offices are still in Kansas City, MO but we are committed to Prairie Village, KS.  Our phone number is (913) 341-3313 and we are located at 4200 Somerset Drive, Suite 204, P.V. We want to thank you again for guiding us through this very difficult process of planning our son’s funeral.  While we certainly wish there hadn’t been a “need” to meet you, we are so happy we did.  You made a horrible time in our life easier to get through, and for that we will always be grateful.  Thanks again and God Bless!

I wanted to take this opportunity to tell  you again how great it was to hear you speak today and hear the passion you have for what you do. This is the 3rd time I have heard you speak and each time I feel as if I have drunk a little more of the Funeral  Advocates “Kool-Aid.”  Keep up the good work.   K.D. April 2, 2013

It was great to meet you and hear you speak yesterday at the Jackson County Professionals In Aging meeting. You were interesting, entertaining, and educational! I always like that combination in a speaker.  Kim. April 2, 2013

“I wanted to thank you for your kind and helpful guidence during our mother’s passing. As you well know, the loss of your mom is huge, and your work with us made the enormity of it all very managable.  In fact, at times we had fun!  Thank you for all you did and continue to do for others!  Much Love, Margaret J.   March, 2013

Dear Bud,

Thank Funeral Advocates and yourself for all that you have done.  From day one, you took control over everything and made this nightmare into something special.  Your support, kindness and love is what’s amazing.

God Bless,
